SPE-KNUST Hosts Insightful Webinar on Technical Paper Writing for International Contests

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) KNUST Chapter, in collaboration with the SPE Ghana Section, organized a virtual workshop on October 3, 2025, focused on empowering students and young professionals with the art of writing and presenting impactful technical papers. The event, themed “Technical Paper Writing for International Contests and Conferences,” was designed to prepare participants for the upcoming Student Paper Contest, while also enhancing their overall research and presentation skills.
Moderated by Augustine Anansey (SPE KNUST Chapter President),the session drew 81 participants, including students, early-career engineers, and industry mentors.
The workshop featured practical insights from seasoned speakers who have excelled in various SPE competitions. Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Appiah, winner of the 2024 SPE Africa Datathon, emphasized the value of a compelling problem statement and logical structure in technical writing.
Nii Sowah Laryea-Adjei, a 2025 paper contest contestant, shared strategies for crafting abstracts that align with SPE standards and offered advice on continuous improvement through revisions.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Stephen Adjei, Faculty Advisor, highlighted that technical paper contests not only enhance writing skills but also build confidence and professional visibility. Prof. Richard Amorin, Section Chair, encouraged students to take advantage of such platforms to develop and showcase their potential.
The webinar concluded with an engaging Q&A session that reflected participants’ enthusiasm and curiosity.
The event successfully reinforced the chapter’s commitment to fostering technical excellence and preparing students for global platforms of innovation and knowledge sharing.
